In the coming months will arrive the first 5 Bluetooth devices on the market, the new wireless standard which will bring many new features. The specifications of the Bluetooth 5 have been finalised, which means that soon we should see the first devices on the market that will integrate the new wireless standard.
The most interesting in practical terms is the increase in range of the wireless signal. Now the Bluetooth 4.2 allows an average of about 10 meters without major physical obstacles, while Bluetooth 5 promises to quadruple this distance, allowing much more freedom of movement without the constant worry of a link outage.
Another improvement is related to the transfer speed. This will bring a maximum of 1 Mbps with Bluetooth 4.2 to 2 Mbps, resulting in a halving of file transfer times. For audiophiles this  still allows you to enjoy high-resolution music via Bluetooth, but it is a first step towards this direction.
Talking about IoT. All these innovations described above will have other consequences as the increasingly widespread dissemination of the Beacon Bluetooth, nodes can send accurate information to the mobile devices of a specific area.
Initially the Beacon chiefly found in shopping malls and supermarkets to alert you of any promotions, but their use will expand to new possibilities as we have already seen in San Francisco, where the Beacon are already used to help the visually impaired move around an  airport.
Nor should we forget the importance that the IoT, combined with the scale and the Bluetooth 5 transfer capabilities, will in the smart home eco-system, where various devices scattered around the house will be able to communicate with each other more quickly, effectively and to a greater distance than before.
Theoretically all these developments could lead to higher consumption and hence shorter-range of these next devices carrying Bluetooth 5. Luckily this should not happen, since according to the technical specifications Bluetooth 5 should consume like Bluetooth 4.2. To be certain, however, we have to wait for the first devices to appear on the market.
